Order of the British Empire Awarded to Johnnie Walker Master Blender

Johnnie Walker (and Diageo) 40 year veteran, Dr Jim Beverage has been awarded an Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the Queen’s Birthday Hours List.

Beverage is one of only six people to ever hold the title of Master Blender at Johnnie Walker and is responsible for maintaining the quality of the blend and overseeing a team of twelve blenders in total. Not an easy task by any means.

Johnnie Walker celebrates their 200th Birthday next year and Beverage has been with the company almost a quarter of that time.

‘We believe we are the custodians of our brands, standing on the shoulders of the giants who went before us. I really feel that today.’ Says the elated Beverage.

‘This is recognition of everyone, over the years, who has been involved in making Johnnie Walker the leading global brand that it is.’

Johnnie Walker is the world’s largest selling Scotch whisky, turning over 108 million bottles annually in almost 200 countries. The whisky that goes into the blend comes from 29 distilleries all of which are owned by Diageo.

Diageo chief executive Ivan Menezes, said: ‘Jim epitomises everything that makes Johnnie Walker and Scotch whisky great. He is dedicated to his craft and passionate about the quality of his product.

‘Most importantly he is a wonderful person and that is why he is so highly regarded not just in Diageo but throughout the Scotch whisky industry.’

TWR says; congratulations Jim. An award very well deserved.
